Kellser, M. R.

Post by Kellser, M.R. »

Name: Matthew Robert Kellser
Sex: Male
Age: 24
Date of Birth: January 15, 2220
Race: Caucasian
Height: 6'0''
Weight: 192 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Medical Record: Superficial cut on face from training accident, gunshot wound on torso.

Physical Appearance: Matthew Kellser, who was always told he didn't resemble a single damn person in his entire family, has a face that several believe makes him look older than he appears to be. He has short brown hair and equally brown eyes, a quality his aunt always told him meant that he was full of shit. What his eyes really show about him, however, is his constant state of thoughtfulness. In fact, Kellser's default expression is a pensive one, befitting his always working mind.

His average height and build mean he doesn't stand out much in a crowd, especially when everyone's faces are covered in dirt and grime from days in the field and wearing the same uniform and gear. While not a trained athlete by any means, he is in well enough shape to take almost all physical challenges of Colonial Marine life in stride.

Personality: Matthew Kellser is an intelligent, open-minded man who's mind is always on the go. His default mood seems to be "friendly," and he's known as the kind of guy who has no enemies or naysayers. Though he has a wicked sense of humor and loves humor in various forms, he doesn't actually make jokes or cracks as often as the more outgoing jokesters of a unit.

Though he tries not to be an over-serious killjoy, Kellser always maintains a level of seriousness when in the field, and though he may be friendly as he reminds a squad comedian that they've still got work to do, he'll still make sure that he, his fellow Marines, and/or his unit gets the job done and done exceptionally well.

While he's not an overachiever, Kellser doesn't believe in only doing what gets the job done. He's comes from a military family with many personal adages, such as "If you're on time, then you're late." These adages can be observed in the way Kellser lives his life, both as a Marine and as a person.

With his appointment as a fire team leader in Bad Company, however, his thoughtful state of being has taken on a new tone. He worries that he might turn out to be the wrong man for the job, and fears what consequences may arise as a result, but he knows that there's only so much a man can do in the land of war. All he can do is do his absolute best.

Background: Matthew Kellser was born on January 15, 2220 near the Gulf of Mexico in the northern half of the United Americas. He was raised in a family that had a long colonial military tradition which imbued his upbringing with discipline and respect. In contrast to the expectedly rigid mindset such a family tradition might impose, Kellser was raised to always have an open mind and remember that the human race, as a whole, was made of individuals. This meant he would always meet people who disagreed with each other on everything from food to religion and the purpose of life, and that each viewpoint was equally valid. As such, he has no prejudices against race, religion, or sexual orientation. The only people he has no patience for are the ignorant, the hateful, and the disrespectful.

His friendly, open-minded personality and mildly attractive looks, which seem to have come from nowhere in his family, made him a hit with the ladies growing up, and though Kellser was known to have a cadre of bed buddies, he always had the feeling that the emotional, long-term relationship that eventually lead to marriage just wasn’t something he was made for. This meant that he had few distractions to his studies as he attended a university for four years, receiving a degree in broadcast journalism. At the age of 22, he enlisted in the Colonial Marines, forgoing the obvious MOS of a journalist to instead serve as a rifleman, allowing him to be one of the grunts in the field and truly experience the camaraderie and sense of brotherhood that infantry Marines seem to be the epitome of.

In two years of service, Kellser saw a fair share of combat drops, including one operation on Hill 123 which became an anti-xenomorph operation. One mission against local insurgents resulted in Kellser suffering a bullet wound to the torso, the scar of which he bares today.

Recently, Kellser was promoted to corporal and transferred to “Bad” Company, where he was assigned as a fire team leader. He’s now preparing and hoping to improve for his first bit of action as a unit leader, worried that he may be the wrong man for the job, but determined to try as hard as hell to prove otherwise.

Example Post: Corporal Matthew Kellser's teeth rattled in his skull as the DDRV plummeted through the air, the ground of the LZ approaching faster than he likely knew. This would be his first experience leading Marines, and he was glad it was a training exercise. Baby steps. Start small, then go bigger and bigger. Going home ain't ever an option.

Then, with a mighty jerk that sent his stomach into his throat, a spike of pain into his head, and a pause to his heartbeat, the Dead Drop Reentry Vehicle made landfall. Kellser gathered his gear together and gripped his M41A2 Pulse Rifle as the the pressure adjusted with a hiss, then with a mighty bang the hatch was blasted off by the hinge charges.

Corporal Kellser was out in the muck before he even registered the stifling humidity that seemed to smother his previously breathing skin pores. With boots on the ground, Kellser took a step forward, activated his infra-red monocle, and scanned his surroundings until he saw the form of another Marine motioning forward with his hand. This act, plus his loud command of "We're moving!" (and the IFF tag over his head, of course) identified him as Staff Sergeant Archer, the 1st Fire and Support Team Leader.

Kellser moved to follow, and within seconds it seemed as if all of 3rd Fire Team, had emerged from the vegetation and formed up in the wake of the advancing FIST.

"FIST has got point," Kellser explained. "Anderson, Kerrigan, you two cover the left. Vedder and I got the right, Kelly's on overwatch at the rear, oorah?"[/b]
